For Immediate Release
It has been an exciting past two weeks for the CSR Super Cups as names new and old made trips to Victory Lane!
The Super Cups made their inaugural visit to the Madison International Speedway on 5-6-07, opening for the Wisconsin Challenge Series (WCS). The inner bullring made for some exciting race action as the drivers had to finesse their way around the track. Erle Hoth won his first heat race, and Mick Ellis won the other adult heat.
The Junior Division races were a fierce battle amongst the top 4 drivers, Morgan Schissel, Cody Lipstreuer, Camden Murphy and rookie Kyle Brinkmann.
Camden won the heat race while Morgan Schissel held on for the feature win.
In the Madison adult feature, the race was marred by several single car spins coming out of the slick turn 4. However, the racing action up front was incredible. Erle Hoth led most laps until Jeff Myers was able to pull ahead for the lead with only a few laps to go. On the final lap, as both Jeff and Erle went high around a slower lap car, Erik Gehrke pulled underneath and stole the victory away by leading the only lap that counts! Erle Hoth finished second and Andy Forster third.
The Super Cup action was so exciting that it was featured on a Madison news channel, Morgan Schissel was interviewed in the local paper, and Erik Gehrke was a guest on the InsideArca radio show!
Not satisfied there, the Super Cups put on another amazing show at the Dells Raceway Park, opening up again for the WCS. Under new ownership, the track, its facilities, and its race program were incredible. Wisconsin Dells native Jake Jump took home the fast qualifier award. In the first heat race, David Cerer held off Jake for his first career heat victory! Another first time winner was Sam Morici as he beat Jeff Myers by only inches in the second heat race.
The Junior Division heat race was won by fast qualifier Camden Murphy. In the feature race it was all Garrett Goodwin, besting 8 other cars as he jumped to the front quickly, allowing the other fast cars to lose ground fighting for second place.
In the 18 car feature race, a broken drive chain was all the difference. Erik Gehrke jumped out to an early lead, but a few cautions tightened the field back up. Then it was all Jeff Myers as he flew to the lead. However, Jimmy Scanlon was on the only driver to keep up with Jeff and even began his pass for the lead when a slower lap car got in the way. As Jimmy slid avoiding the car, his drive chain malfunctioned, leaving the win to Jeff Myers, his second feature win of the season. Erik Gehrke and David Cerer followed in behind.
This Saturday the Super Cups make their first 2007 visit to Rockford Speedway. The feature event will be sponsored by the Beach Park Auto Center, who will present the winner with a special trophy and winner's check! Jeff Myers looks to defend last week's win, while Erik Gehrke hopes to maintain his narrow points lead over Andy Forster. Junior Division veterans Morgan Schissel and Camden Murphy are tied for their points lead and look to make a difference at Rockford. We hope to see you at the track! Congratulations to Gary Whitson for taking home the championship in the first ever Midwest Super Cup Showdown" He was followed closely by Don Gettlefinger for 2nd and a tie between Jeff Myers and Tim Phillips for 3rd.
A total of 52 drivers and 129 cars made an appearance with CSR in 2006 for the showdown races!
CSR Super Cups Update!
Central States Region Super Cup Results:
On 9/1/06 3 drivers of the IL/WI division met with several Michigan area drivers for an exhibition race at M40 Speedway. Jeff Myers, Tim Phillips, and Erik Gehrke spent most of the race swapping for the lead, even spending multiple laps 3 wide. In the end, it was Jeff Myers by a nose. The large M40 crowd was in awe of their first Super Cup race ever.
The IL. / WI. division of CSR made its fourth and final appearance for the Super Cup Showdown at Galesburg Speedway on 9/2/06. Track conditions were poor which led to a few early crashes. Ken Jones took home the feature win for the open division in a shortened feature and Camdon Murphy took home the win for the kids.
Heat wins went out to Brandon Scurto, Don Gettlefinger and Jeff Myers.
Congratulations to Gary Whitson and Mackenzie Piller for becoming the first Super Cup Showdown Champions.
The Labor Day race at Rockford Speedway was cancelled due to heavy rain and flooding. The last official race of the season for the IL/WI Super Cups is Friday Sept. 29th at Lake Geneva Raceway. The points race is very close and the 2006 champion will be decided there! Check out www.supercupracing.com for more info!

The only suspense in this weeks junior division supercup race was who would come in second behind Camden Murphy. At the drop of the flag, Murphy blew past pole sitter Morgan Schissel and was seriously challenged for the front spot. Schissel and Lipstreuer ran within car lengths of each other, but after falling to second at the drop of the flag, Schissel never gave up that spot. Lipstreuer finsihed third, followed by Greg Ballard, Kelsey Dunlap and Cheyenne Ballard.
In the adult division feature, Jake Jump motored past teammate Alex Y. to take the lead. While the following pack of cars battled 2 and 3 wide, Jake was able to pull away from the field to take the Feature Race win.
