Michigan Driver Spotlight - Inside the Spin Out Zone

Johnny Vandoorn - Inside the Spin Out Zone

Car Number: No. 21
Division:Coors Light Late Model
2004 Heat Wins: 1
Birthdate: April 4, 1988
Hometown: Coopersville, MI

Youngest driver to ever win a Late Model race at Berlin Raceway!

SOZ: What are your future goals in racing?

Johnny Vandoorn: My ultimate goal would be to be able to make a living in racing. Regardless of the series or division, that's my main goal.

SOZ: What tracks in Michigan do you race at?

JV: I run weekly at the Berlin Raceway. I also have raced at Dixie and Auto City. When I ran dirt, I ran at Crystal, Winston, I96 and Butler.

SOZ: Do you have a favorite NASCAR driver?

JV: My favorite NASCAR driver would be Jimmie Johnson. I like the fact that he raced in the ASA series and made it up to the top level of NASCAR.

SOZ: Who would you consider your mentor and why?

JV: I don't really have a mentor, but I do ask other late model drivers a lot of questions. Guys like John Grega, Ross Meeuswen, and Caleb Bisacky.

SOZ: Who was your very first sponsor?

JV: I would have to say John's Towing, that is my dad's business and that's been on my car ever since I started racing go-karts.

SOZ: What motivates you behind the steering wheel?

JV: Whenever I get in the car, I want to run well. Running well makes all of the long nights and the hot days at the track worth it. Plus, it's a great way to say thanks to my team for all of their hard work. Also, when your running good, it's a lot easier to answer someone when they see you during the week and they ask, How did you do Saturday?
